Leadership Development

Our aim is to provide a clear development structure to support the identification of leadership talent in schools to facilitate the continuous supply of the highest quality leaders into schools at all levels – up to and including headship.The DTSA are committed to developing highly effective leaders by providing coaching and secondment opportunities to provide key learning opportunities for leaders.

The Dacorum Teaching School Alliance has developed a common systems of identifying and supporting teachers who wish to become senior leaders, drawing on good practice nationally and from within the Alliance. This is built into recruitment strategies, CPD and performance management.

Opportunities to experience leadership roles in other schools are offered across the Alliance. This includes mentoring of aspiring, middle or senior leaders by more senior staff. Opportunities for some deputy or assistant Headteachers to take on an acting headship role are arranged where possible.

An annual list of list of teachers interested in leadership roles will be drawn up across the Alliance so that leadership development opportunities can be targeted at those most suited for them. These people will be offered coaching plans and those who have not developed further will be told what they need to do to progress further with leadership coaching.
