Participating institutions

The Leadership Exchange Programme is facilitated by Longdean School.

Participants should be willing to be placed in and travel to any of the participating institutions to which they are allocated.

Programmes and target groups

Three types of programme will be available:

(a) SLT Programme: a programme for current Assistant Headteachers and Deputy Headteachers to visit the Senior Leadership Team of another school.

(b) Aspirant SLT Programme: a programme for aspirant Assistant Headteachers (i.e. middle leaders preparing for leadership or who have been identified as having the potential to be in a leadership role) to visit the Senior Leadership Team of another school.

(c) Middle Leader Programme: a programme for Middle Leaders who are interested in developing their current practice. The Middle Leader visits their equivalent (or a range of Middle Leaders) in another school.

Not all institutions will be offering all types of placement in a given year.

Placements

Participating institutions send an internee to another school. All participating institutions can send and generally accommodate up to two internees per year.

The length of the time of the placement is mutually agreed between the institutions or internee amd institution but as a guideline will generally be (a) 3-4 days for a current AHT or DHT visiting another SLT; (b) 3-5 days for an aspirant AHT visiting another SLT; or (c) 1-2 days for a middle leader visiting another middle leader. Please note that these timescales can not be shortened below the minimum level, since this impacts on the level of benefit for both the applicant and the recipient school.

This does not have to be a two-way swap e.g. Longdean may send someone to Tring, but Tring might send someone to Simon Balle.
