I have been a Subject Leader of Mathematics at the Astley Cooper School since 2014 following a career change from the commercial sector into education in 2010. During this time, I have implemented many strategies to improve the quality of teaching of Mathematics and have embedded improved methods of assessment, tracking, intervention and monitoring of students. This has resulted in the department's results now being in line with national figures and gaps being closed within our vulnerable groups. I have shared my forensic style approach to interpreting and responding to pupil data with other middle leaders and mentored others to improve outcomes within their own faculties.
I have set up and developed a strong support network for Mathematic Leaders with East and West Dacorum, initially to facilitate a smooth transition into the 9-1 grading system. I am also a volunteer teacher of mathematics at a local primary school providing me with a valuable insight of the increased demand in the KS2 curriculum. This understanding has enabled me to make changes to KS3 schemes of work and harness better progress from the off set in yr7.
In 2012 I trained as a coach I am able to provide focused support to help other educators reach the goals they have set for their students or themselves. I have used my expertise to help colleagues with a range of issues such as behaviour management and assertiveness. Likewise I have experience in using coaching to develop PGCE students and NQT's.
